The other night I sat down in my living room together with Rune after the children were put to bed. During all the busyness of life we have learned that if we want to have some time together we best put it in the calendar, at least once a week. But often, when we reach that point of the day where the dinner has been served + cleaned away and the children has got their attention and love and are put to bed, we are both a bit frazzled. And it takes quite a shift to move into anything new. So, that night, we agreed to just sit for a while. And take a moment to breathe.
And there I sat and was completely STILL. For more than 5 minutes. at 8.30 pm. Wow!

As I settled, I began to notice the many fine sounds in the room. The calmness of the evening, inviting us to listen to the inner voice and find peace with whatever IS. And I SAW my life, and me in it.
I began noticing how much I have in my life to be grateful for. It is a lot. And I felt the healing of being grateful for what there IS, rather than to long for what IS NOT.
It hit me almost as a chock how I very rarely just SIT. Without having some specific inner or outer activity going on. I have many wonderful practices. I consider my painting process as kind of a meditative state, a deep inner quiet and a connection to fine things. I do running and pilates. And I walk. I also write morning pages. But just sitting without doing anything has not been part of my practise, so far. From now on it will.
And to be quiet together with someone I care for before engaging is a beautiful way to start a meeting.
Thank you, Quiet moment. Once again, I am grateful to be alive. I will try to remember.

I have been planning and dreaming about creating this newsletter for a loooong time. In fact, it has become one of those elephant-tasks that I knew would be just a tiny cute mouse-task once I got around to it. For a whole year I put it off (A YEAR!!!), until I was so fed up with it I made it my nr. 1 priority in the beginning of this year. But that´s how it is; sometimes we are just not ready even though what we want to do would only takes 5 minutes or one day out of a lifetime. And there are many inner and outer reasons for that! + many wonderful ways to overcome those resistances, like in this list of links.
But now it´s here!!! I managed to spend that day to learn the tiny mouse-bite of techy stuff so I can offer you more eye-candy than a normal mail, because I love when things are pleasing to the eyes. “Circus of Balance”, available as A4 poster right here in my shop
We never know beforehand. Not fully. We have to walk the path, often feeling partly blindfolded or dimmed in our vision. Like driving through the night, only able to see as far as the frontlights are able to light up the darkness. And still we somehow get there. That is, if we “get up, get in the car and drive”. Sitting at home wondering how to drive in the dark won´t do it.
When I created this image it was for an international competition. I felt way out of my comfort zone and actually scared, but I dove in and really gave it my very best. I even went to have the painting scanned professionally and payed a graphic designer to create the file in the right dimensions. I often refrain from any kind of competition because I am afraid that I won´t be able to handle if I loose!
Well, I didn´t win and I was not selected as one of the top 50 either. There were more than 2000 entries from all over the world, but still I could feel my heart drop: “how will I ever get there” “There” meaning learning how to get into a market I don´t know much about, learning how to make a business from my passion, learning how to earn money from what I create so that I can keep creating.
I am still learning, and often frightened too. However, this image went on to become the all times bestseller amongst my creations so far. Whenever a shop places an order, they will give a number of their wanted cards and images in different sizes, and very often they add: and could you give us 10 extra of this image in all your sizes please, it is selling so fast!
What I am saying is: I could not see, it felt utterly uncomfortable, I still gave it my best – then I felt like a looser, and my heart dropped. But found my way forward with what was important: to keep driving/creating from my passion. And then this image found it´s very own way of being of use and joy in this world, slowly but steadily finding it´s own place and usage.
I am very thankful for that experience, the whole of it!
